Your date of birth

Date From

What Is an Age Calculator?

Quick answer: An age calculator turns a date of birth into an age: completed years, then full months, then leftover days, counted up to today or a Date From you choose. To find out how old you are, enter your date of birth in the calculator above and press Calculate Age.

As a date of birth calculator, it answers "how old am I?" in years, months and days, then repeats the span as total months, weeks, days, hours, minutes and seconds: seven rows, each with a copy icon.

It counts calendar age between two dates, nothing more. If a form, school or agency asks for your age, confirm its rule first.

How to Calculate Your Age From Your Date of Birth

To calculate age from date of birth here, follow four steps. The form is two blocks of dropdowns and one button.

  1. Pick your date of birth. Under Your date of birth, choose a Year, Month and Day. The Year list holds 200 years, starting at the current year and running back. With a keyboard, typing 1990 in the Year box or Mar in the Month box jumps straight to it.
  2. Check the Date From. It opens on today's date from your device's clock. Leave it for your age right now, or change it to measure your age on another date.
  3. Press Calculate Age. The page reloads with a Result card under the form. The math runs on our server, not in your browser.
  4. Read or copy the results. A headline gives your age in whole years, then seven rows run from Current Age to Age In Seconds. A copy icon beside each row copies that one line. Copy what you need before you leave, because a fresh visit to the tool shows no result. Download PDF opens your browser's print dialog, where you choose Save as PDF.

Date order: the date of birth can't be later than Date From, and the same date in both blocks gives 0 years 0 months 0 days. Try your own dates in the calculator above and see.

Your Age in Years, Months, Weeks, Days, Hours and Seconds

The seven rows are one span of time in different units, from age in months to age in seconds. The table shows how each one is counted.

Result rowWhat it countsExample for October 16, 1990 to October 16, 2026
Current AgeWhole years, months and days since the birth date36 years 0 months 0 days
Age In MonthComplete months, plus the days left over432 months 0 days
Age In WeeksComplete weeks in the day count1,878 weeks
Age In DaysCalendar days between the two dates, your total days lived13,149 days
Age In HoursDays multiplied by 24315,576 hours
Age In MinutesHours multiplied by 6018,934,560 minutes
Age In SecondsMinutes multiplied by 601,136,073,600 seconds

There is no birth-hour field and no time zone setting, so hours, minutes and seconds are a midnight to midnight conversion of the day count.

To convert any of these figures into another unit, use our time converter.

How We Count Years, Months and Days

We didn't write our own calendar math. The date arithmetic behind the years, months and days comes from a standard date library, the PHP DateTime::diff method. Anyone with PHP can rerun that line for any pair of dates here.

The method has three moves. Count completed years up to your last birthday, then completed months after it, then the days that are left. Each month is a real calendar month of 28, 29, 30 or 31 days, never a block of 30.

Take a person born August 15, 1995 and measured on March 20, 2026. Subtract the years and you get 31, but the months run backward: March is month 3, August is month 8, and 3 minus 8 is negative. So borrow a year, which leaves 30 years and 7 months. The days are 20 minus 15, or 5. That's 30 years 7 months 5 days, and 11,175 days in total.

Days can run short as well, and then you borrow a month. Born October 17, 1990, measured on October 16, 2026: the plain subtraction reads 36 years 0 months, but the birth day is later than the Date From day. So the count steps back to September and borrows its 30 days, which gives 16 plus 30, minus 17, or 29 days. That borrowed month comes out of the years, and you land on 35 years 11 months 29 days, or 13,148 days. The month you borrow matters: November 17, 1990 to November 16, 2026 borrows October's 31 days and reads 35 years 11 months 30 days, with the same 13,148 total.

The day total is a plain count of calendar days, leap days included. Leap-day births come next, and month ends return under why results differ.

Leap Years and February 29 Birthdays

The Gregorian leap-year rule fits one line: a year is a leap year when it divides by 4, unless it is a century year, and a century year counts only when it divides by 400. That rule belongs to the Gregorian calendar, the one in everyday use, so 2000 and 2024 are leap years while 1900 and 2100 are common years.

The Day dropdown follows the real month length, so February offers 29 days for 2000 and 28 for 1900 and 2001. Leap days sit inside the day count automatically: January 1, 2000 to December 31, 2026 spans 9,861 days, seven of them leap days.

Someone born on February 29, 2000 reads as 24 years 11 months 30 days on February 28, 2025, then 25 years 0 months 0 days on March 1, 2025, and 28 years 0 months 0 days on February 29, 2028. In a common year, then, the birthday arrives on March 1.

That is a convention, and not the only one. Some leaplings (people born on a leap day) celebrate on February 28 in common years, and the entry on leapling birthdays describes both habits.

Leap-day rule: the calculator applies the March 1 rule every time. It has no switch for February 28, so count that day yourself if a form asks for the other convention.

Check Your Age on Any Date With Date From

Date From is the day your age is measured up to. Changing it gives your age on a specific date. Move it earlier for "how old was I then?" or later for "how old will I be?" The Year list covers 200 years counting back from the current year, so Date From runs from January 1 of the oldest listed year to December 31 of the current year, never into next year.

  • Age at an event. Put a wedding date, a graduation date or an old photo's date in Date From and read Current Age for your age in a photo. A family tree entry works the same way.
  • Age on a cutoff date. Enter the cutoff in Date From and read the Current Age row for the completed years on that day.
  • Days between two dates. Put the earlier date, such as an anniversary, in the birth fields and the later one in Date From. Read Age In Days for the date difference; the form doubles as an age in days calculator.
  • Time zones. There is nothing to set. Both fields hold calendar dates, and once they are picked no time zone can move the result by a day.
  • A 10,000-day milestone. In our PHP check of every birth date from 1900 to 2000, the age in days reached 10,000 at 27 years, 4 months and 15 to 19 days. Aim Date From there and nudge the day until the Age In Days row reads 10,000. Born October 16, 1990, you are 10,000 days old on March 3, 2018. That date must land on or before December 31 of the current year. Change Date From in the calculator above and watch the row.

Age Calculator Examples You Can Check by Hand

These are the pairs we would test first on any calculator, ours included. You can check the years, months and days by hand, and we confirmed each day total with a second, independent calculation.

Date of birthDate FromResult in years, months and daysTotal days
October 16, 1990October 16, 202636 years 0 months 0 days13,149
October 17, 1990October 16, 202635 years 11 months 29 days13,148
October 15, 1990October 16, 202636 years 0 months 1 day13,150
February 29, 2000February 28, 202524 years 11 months 30 days9,131
February 29, 2000March 1, 202525 years 0 months 0 days9,132
March 31, 2000April 30, 20000 years 0 months 30 days30
January 1, 2000December 31, 202626 years 11 months 30 days9,861

Read the table like a test plan. Row one puts the birthday on the Date From. Rows two and three sit a day either side of it, and the day before is where borrowing shows up. Rows four and five run a February 29 birth across the end of February, row six is a month end, and row seven picks the last day of the year as Date From, where an off-by-one is easiest to hide.

To check any row by hand, count to the last birthday, then the months, then the days, as in the worked example earlier.

Why Age Calculators Give Different Answers

Two calculators can both be right and still disagree. Five rules explain the gap.

  • Calendar months or 30-day months. Some tools treat every month as 30 days. We use calendar months, and results near a month end can differ by a few days.
  • Days divided by 365.25. Born March 1, 1992, you turn 26 on March 1, 2018, yet 9,496 days divided by 365.25 gives 25.9986. We count completed years instead.
  • Month ends and February 29. Libraries split on both. For February 29, 2000 to February 28, 2025, PHP says 24 years 11 months 30 days and, in our test, Python's dateutil says 25 years.
  • Counting the end date. Count both the first and the last day and a span reads one day longer. Here, October 16 to October 17 is 1 day.
  • Time of day and time zone. Subtract two timestamps, divide by 86,400, round down, and a daylight saving time change can leave you a day short. We never use clock times, only calendar dates.

March 31 to April 30, 2000 shows the split. We report 0 months 30 days, while dateutil reports 1 month 0 days. We follow how a standard date library computes an interval, which in PHP is DateTime::diff, instead of inventing a month-end rule. The cost: month-end answers follow the library, and its manual notes that a result isn't always reversible. When a form disagrees, ask its owner which rule it applies.

What This Age Calculator Does Not Do

Six limits to know before you pick a date.

  • No clock time or countdown. There is no field for birth time, no birthday countdown and no result naming the weekday you were born.
  • Calendar age only. It counts completed years from the birth date, applies no other age-counting system, and isn't meant for pets, gestational age or any medical or legal determination.
  • A bounded range. The oldest year in the Year list moves up every January 1, and nothing after December 31 of the current year can be selected.
  • Download PDF is a print dialog. It creates no file on our server, and the printout holds the results table only, with no headline and no dates.
  • A reset form or an error page. If Calculate Age returns you to a form reset to today's date, or to an error page, reload and pick your dates again. A tab left open for a long time can reset the form.
  • Different jobs, different tools. For the age of a website, use the domain age checker. For the Excel DATEDIF function, Google Sheets formulas and milestone ages, read our age calculator guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) is a list of common questions and answers provided to quickly address common concerns or inquiries.

How do I calculate my exact age from my date of birth?

Choose your date of birth under Your date of birth, leave Date From on its starting date and press Calculate Age. The Result card gives completed years, months and days. By hand, count from your birth date to your last birthday, then the full months after it, then the leftover days. The calculator above runs the same three-move count, so the two should agree.

How many days old am I, and how do I find my age in hours or seconds?

Press Calculate Age and read the Age In Days row. It counts calendar days between your birth date and Date From, leap days included: October 16, 1990 to October 16, 2026 gives 13,149. Hours, minutes and seconds are that day count multiplied by 24, 1,440 and 86,400, a midnight to midnight conversion, not a running count of your life.

How does the calculator handle a February 29 birthday?

In a common year the birthday arrives on March 1. Someone born on February 29, 2000 reads as 24 years 11 months 30 days on February 28, 2025 and 25 years 0 months 0 days on March 1, 2025. Some leaplings celebrate on February 28, and the calculator has no switch for that, so count that day yourself if a form asks.

Why is my result different from another age calculator?

Usually the rule differs, not the arithmetic. Check whether months are real calendar months or blocks of 30 days, whether the end date counts as an extra day, and how February 29 and month ends are handled. We use calendar months and the plain difference between two dates. Ask which rule a form uses before deciding either number is wrong.

Can I find my age on a past or future date?

Yes, within limits, using Date From. Pick any day from January 1 of the oldest year in the Year list, a list of 200 years counting back from the current year, up to December 31 of the current year. Next year is not listed. Your date of birth can't be later than Date From, and there is no time zone setting because both fields are calendar dates.

How old am I if I only know my birth year?

With only a year you get two possible ages, not one. Subtract the birth year from the current year: that is your age if your birthday has passed this year, and one less if it hasn't. To see both bounds, run January 1 and December 31 of that year through the calculator and compare the Current Age rows.

Does this age calculator use Korean age?

No. There is no setting for it. The result is calendar age: completed years since the birth date, then months and days. We apply no other age-counting system. If a form asks for one, follow that form's own instructions rather than this result.

Can I use it to count the days between two dates?

Yes, through the Age In Days row. Put the earlier date in the birth fields and the later date in Date From, then press Calculate Age. The count is calendar days with leap days included, and the later date is the end point, so December 31, 1999 to January 1, 2000 is 1 day. Both dates have to fit the Year lists. Try a pair in the calculator above.

Can I copy, save or print my result?

Yes: each row has a copy icon that copies that one line. Download PDF opens your browser's print dialog, where you pick Save as PDF; your browser makes the file, not our server. The printout holds the results table only, with no headline and no dates, so write the dates down. A fresh visit shows no result, so copy a row before you leave.

Is the age calculator free, and do I need to sign up?

Yes, it is free, and you don't need an account. Guests and signed-in members use the same page with the same fields, and there is nothing to install. The form is six dropdowns and one button: pick two dates in the calculator above and press Calculate Age.
