Format text, links, images and tables in a visual editor, then copy the HTML or save it as a file. Free, with no account needed.
HTML code
This is the HTML of the editor above. Type or paste HTML here and the editor shows it; change the text in the editor and this box follows. Scripts are not kept, because the editor removes them.
What Is a Visual HTML Editor?
Quick answer: A visual HTML editor is WYSIWYG, meaning what you see is what you get: you format with menus and a toolbar, and it writes the tags. This free online HTML editor also lists them in a code box below, where you can type HTML.
Use this HTML editor online to convert text to HTML without typing HTML tags. TinyMCE 7, a rich text editor, runs the editing area, and the HTML code box under it adds line numbers and colored tags.
Type <h1>Hi</h1> in the editing area and it stays plain text. Type it in the HTML code box and the editing area shows a heading a moment later.
How to Format Text and Copy the HTML Online
Type or paste. Click the editing area (placeholder: Write some text here ...) and type or paste. A hash and a space at line start makes a Heading 1.
Format it. Use the menu bar or the toolbar. The Paragraph list sets headings, and Ctrl+K opens the link dialog. At 390 px wide most of the toolbar sits behind a three dot button named Reveal or hide additional toolbar items.
Read the HTML. The HTML code box shows the markup and takes edits: in our tests the editing area redrew within half a second. View, Source code opens the editor's own copy in a dialog, and Save there rewrites the box.
Copy or save. Copy to Clipboard copies the box as it stands. Save to HTML file downloads html-editor.html as a full page, and does nothing on an empty box.
No autosave: reloading or closing the tab empties the editor and the code box, so copy or save first.

Turn Text Into HTML: What You Get in the Result Box
The box under the editor is titled HTML code and holds the result. This sample uses Heading 2, bold and a typed web address that links itself.
<h2>Pricing</h2>
<p>Plain paragraph with <strong>bold</strong> and a link: <a href="https://example.com">https://example.com</a> </p>
Copy to Clipboard hands you that HTML fragment, with no doctype, head or body. The trailing is a non-breaking space, written because browsers collapse a plain space at the end of a paragraph. Accented letters become named HTML entities, such as é.
Save to HTML file adds a doctype, a UTF-8 charset line and the title Document, unless your code has a doctype or html tag. Nothing is validated here, so run the file through the W3C Nu HTML Checker.
What This HTML Editor Does Not Do
The editing area is not a code field. Tags typed there as plain text show as characters.
Some markup is removed. In our tests the editor removed script tags, style blocks and onclick event handlers, dropped an SVG and cut a pasted page to its body. The code box keeps typed text as typed, so a typed script is still copied until the editor rewrites the box.
Some link paths change. In our tests the relative URL /about-us became about-us in the Link dialog, and a pasted #frag became html-editor#frag. Check every link, and see the TinyMCE URL handling options.
There is no upload tab. The Image dialog takes a web address, and a pasted picture becomes a base64 data URI.
Visual Editor, Code Viewer or Text Editor: Which One Do You Need?
Use this editor for formatted text you want as HTML. To run a page with its own CSS and JavaScript, open the Online HTML Viewer, where inline CSS and JavaScript run in a sandboxed iframe.
The Online Text Editor suits rich text that ends as a PDF. A style block that changes nothing here means you wanted the viewer.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) is a list of common questions and answers provided to quickly address common concerns or inquiries.
What is an HTML editor?
It is software for writing and changing HTML (HyperText Markup Language), the markup behind web pages. A code editor has you type the tags, while a WYSIWYG HTML editor, short for what you see is what you get, writes them as you format.
Can I type or edit HTML code in this editor?
Yes, in the HTML code box under the editor. Type or paste your tags there and the editing area shows the result a moment later. Tags typed into the editing area show as plain characters, so hand-written markup belongs in the box.
How do I preview HTML code that I wrote?
Paste it into the HTML code box and the editing area shows what it makes, minus scripts and style blocks. View, Preview opens a dialog of the same thing. To run a page with its own CSS and JavaScript, use the Online HTML Viewer.
How do I copy or save the HTML I made?
Copy to Clipboard copies the HTML code box as it stands, and Save to HTML file downloads html-editor.html. The copy is a fragment, while the file adds a doctype, a UTF-8 charset line and the title Document. An empty box does nothing.
Can I paste text from Word or Google Docs?
Yes, but check the HTML code box after you paste from Word or Google Docs. In our tests, sample fragments styled like Microsoft Word and Google Docs lost fonts, margins and colors, and a bold word set through a span came out plain.
Does the editor keep scripts, styles or event attributes?
Not in the editing area. In our tests the content filtering removed scripts, style blocks and onclick attributes, took the address off javascript: links and dropped an SVG with an onload handler. Code typed in the HTML code box stays as typed until the editor rewrites the box.
Is the HTML editor free, and do I need an account?
Yes. This is a free HTML editor, and you need no account or install. Format text in the editing area or paste code in the HTML code box, then copy the HTML or save html-editor.html. It does not check your markup.
