What the New PDF Keeps and What It Loses

When you remove pages from PDF files, qpdf copies kept pages into a new page tree, so text, images, page size, web links and form fields stay the same. Not carried over:

  • Bookmarks. Our test lost all 3 bookmarks in PDF documents.
  • Document properties. Title and author go; Creator and Producer name us.
  • File attachments, tagged PDF structure, document language. Not copied.
  • Layers. Switched-off layers may reappear, so hide nothing here.
  • Internal links. Jumps to other pages break, even to kept pages; web address links are unaffected.
